Carolyn Krause to be feted
Mount Prospect village officials and the League of Women Voters will honor Carolyn Krause tonight for her 35 years of services as lawyer, mayor and state representative. The public is invited to a series of events at Mount Prospect Village Hall, 50 S. Emerson St., beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by a ceremony at the 7 p.m. board meeting and program at 7:30 marking her achievements, particularly in the field of health care.
Tollway ramps open, close
The southbound Tri-State Tollway Touhy Avenue entrance ramp off River Road, which has been under construction, will reopen today, while the northbound River Road at Touhy Avenue entrance ramp will be closed for construction, Des Plaines officials said Monday. In addition, the Cook County Highway Department is beginning the total reconstruction of Potter Road from Dempster Street to Golf Road this week, officials said. The work will last approximately one year and only local traffic will be permitted. Alternate routes include Greenwood Avenue and East River Road.
Facility for disabled opens
The Visions Network, a program serving more than 70 people with developmental disabilities, recently opened a new facility at 2101 Oxford Road, Des Plaines. It offers homes and apartments in the community for four to eight individuals with developmental disabilities in residential neighborhoods throughout Elk Grove Village, Des Plaines, Wheeling, and Chicago. Each home is staffed by independent living counselors who help residents maintain their home and participate in community life. Household duties are shared by the program participants. Residents participate in adult learning and therapy programs, as well as social activities such as attending baseball games or concerts to routine activities like shopping at the grocery store.
