Bond at $80,000 for man charged in stabbing attack
A judge set bond at $80,000 Monday for a McHenry man accused of bursting into an acquaintance's apartment over the weekend and stabbing him numerous times.
Arturo Diaz, 39, faces charges of home invasion and aggravated battery stemming from the incident Sunday evening in the 1300 block of Front Street in McHenry.
The victim, McHenry Deputy Police Chief John Jones said, was stabbed in the chest and received knife wounds to the face and arm. He was transferred from the scene to Centegra Hospital - McHenry for treatment of what Jones described as non-life threatening injuries.
"(Diaz-Castinada) went to the victim's home to confront him about a domestic situation," Jones said. "This was not a stranger. They knew each other."
During the altercation, police said, Diaz-Castinada grabbed hold of a knife he found in the residence and stabbed the victim several times. He then fled the scene in a car, but was pulled over a short time later and arrested, police said. He was transferred to the McHenry County jail and appeared in court Monday morning.
Police are still working to determine what caused the dispute that led to the stabbing, Jones said.
Diaz-Castinada would face between six and 30 years in prison if found guilty of both charges. He remained in custody at the county jail late Monday and is scheduled to return to court March 16.
