FBI: Streamwood man eBay'd stolen goods
A Streamwood man has been arrested by federal authorities who said he used eBay and other Web sites to sell stolen goods.
Ahmet M. Keskes, 38, of the 100 block of Black Hill Drive, was arrested Tuesday without incident, according to an FBI statement. He was taken into custody at the office of Asena Corp., the Internet-based business he owns that's located in the 1500 block of Burgundy Parkway in Streamwood.
Keskes was charged with felony mail fraud, as the FBI said he sent through the U.S. Postal Service merchandise that he sold for well below regular retail prices and which had been stolen from retail establishments or while in transit.
Authorities said Keskes has tallied more than $2 million in online sales and auctions since 2005 through his Streamwood-registered Web site.
The FBI said the stolen items included Victoria's Secret perfumes and colognes; golf clubs from Callaway, TaylorMade and Ping; electronic dog collars and car headlights.
Keskes used the eBay screen names "asenashop" and "schaumburg_konya" to sell the goods, the FBI also alleges.
The FBI said it used an undercover individual who purchased stolen goods on multiple occasions from Keskes.
Officials were tipped off by eBay member feedback that the goods could be stolen, as members wrote the golf clubs were sold without club covers or tool sets, the FBI said. According to the golf club manufacturers, that's a red flag that the goods are stolen.
Streamwood police, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Limited Brands and eBay all assisted in the investigation.
Keskes is being held without bond at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago. He's scheduled to appear before Magistrate Judge Arlander Keyes on Friday, Oct. 2. Keskes faces a maximum 20-year prison term.
