Time to let up on coverage of Vos case

The stories about the teacher accused of improper sexual conduct in Prospect Heights, his death and now the threatening messages being sent to his supposed accuser have run their course. The facts have been detailed and the names have been named save for the juvenile involved and rightly so.

It is now time for the Daily Herald to let those most affected begin to heal without fear of reading another sordid detail in the paper each day.

For those who knew Mr. Vos the revelations of the past few days have been wrenching. That group of people numbers in the thousands and includes the obvious family and friends. But that number also includes all of the students he taught and coached over 20 plus years who remember him fondly. That number also includes the faculty and staff at the school, many of whom worked with Mr. Vos for over 15 years and knew him as a good teacher. All of these people are now dealing with a grieving process, not only because of his death but in trying to assimilate a part of him they didn't know existed and doesn't fit with the man they knew.

Ron Vos was undoubtedly a troubled individual. He leaves behind a very large group of people who cannot just forget him because of what happened. But neither do they need to have this case put in their face everyday.

The school, the students, the faculty and the mission of educating the next generation must continue and your paper's continued focus on this case is a distraction. The police will continue to investigate this case and in the end justice will be served. For right now and for all involved, including the young victim, enough is enough.
