Rush defender captures AFL weekly honors
Chicago Rush defensive back Dennison Robinson has been named the Arena Football League's Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Monday's 72-28 win over Los Angeles.
Robinson set a team record with three interceptions, including one that he returned 26 yards for a touchdown. For the season, Robinson leads the league with 11 interceptions, and is on pace to break both the Rush team record of 12 interceptions in a season set by Dameon Porter in 2001 and the AFL record of 13 shared by three players.
With 23 career interceptions as a member of the Rush, Robinson also is on pace to break Porter's team record of 26 career interceptions.
"I have to give all the credit to our defensive line," said Robinson. "With the kind of pressure they have been putting on opposing quarterbacks, it makes my job so much easier. When QBs have to rush their throws and are worried about getting hit, it gives me a chance to make more plays."
With its win last night, the Rush (9-2) clinched its second-consecutive Central Division title and earned a bye through the first round of the 2008 AFL playoffs.
