World's tallest tower proposed ... in Crystal Lake?

Community reaction appears mixed on a proposal to build what is described as the world's tallest self-supporting tower in Crystal Lake.

Oklahoma-based BMB Communications Management is working to get approval to build the 1,500 broadcast tower on 3.6 acres in the southeast corner of McHenry County College's main campus.

But even if the college trustees agree to sell the property to BMB Communications, the company would have to gain approval and the proper permits from the Federal Aviation Administration, the Federal Communications Commission, and the city of Crystal Lake.

Crystal Lake city leaders are keeping an eye on the project, as are local pilots and Lake in the Hills Airport officials.
