No moral right to have an abortion
My opinion is contrary to that of Harvey McArthur's printed on Sept. 10. He urged the Aurora City Council to ensure that the controversial new Planned Parenthood clinic opens. He believes that every woman should have a legal right to an abortion.
Currently the law of the land allows the termination of the life a pregnant woman is carrying inside of her if the woman so chooses. This law does not recognize God as the supreme being and as the only one who may decide if an innocent human life is to live or die. My moral compass and that of millions of other Americans says that a woman does not have the moral right to decide whether or not to bear a child if she becomes pregnant.
Now, a woman does have a legal and moral right whether or not to engage in sexual intercourse. However, if such sexual activity leads to her becoming pregnant, that human life she happens to be carrying within her is not hers to decide to snuff out if she finds it inconvenient. The only difference between aborting a human life inside her and killing that human life after it is born is the time between the two events.
Millions of godly Americans, me included, do not accept as fact the statement in Mr. McArthur's letter that "Every woman has the right to decide when and if to bear a child."
It is a fact that the act of abortion is evil in the sight of almighty God, no matter which religious faith one practices. As such, I am morally opposed to the existence of any institution that allows the evil of abortion to take place inside of its walls.
