Round Lake 77, Antioch 60

When the Round Lake boys basketball team plays without Vernon Randolph, they miss a lot in their lineup.

Randolph returned to the starting line up Friday night after sitting out Tuesday night's loss to Wheeling.

And he didn't take long to get comfortable again. Randolph just missed a triple-double: He scored 19 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and had 8 assists.

Jerome Brown added a game-high 26 points as Round Lake outscored Antioch 77-60 in a North Suburban Prairie contest at Round Lake.

Randolph had also missed the second half against North Chicago loss last Saturday.

"It was an off-the-court incident," Round Lake coach Jeremy Fisher said. "There was an incident in the game (North Chicago) and we just sat him out (Wheeling).

"Randolph takes us to the next level and allows us to be more competitive. The guys thrive on him when he's in there. He can hit a big 3 for us and keep us in the game."

Round Lake (5-14, 3-5) got rolling early and jumped out to a 23-14 advantage over Antioch (1-16, 1-6).

"We started out strong and that's something that we've struggled with," Fisher said. "My guys understood that no lead is big enough. We came in at the end of the first quarter, like, 'We're up, but we're not done yet.' We wanted to go out and expand the lead to have a comfortable lead throughout the game."

Brown then stepped up in the second quarter, dropping in 9 points and Randolph hit a couple of 3s as the Panthers built a comfortable lead of 45-25 at the break.

"We came out knowing that we were going to win this game," Brown said. "They had their only win against us early in the season. We came out, worked hard and did everything the coach wanted us to do."

Antioch was behind 53-28 a couple of minutes into the third quarter.

The Sequoits' Michael Powell was battling a flu bug but came off the bench and scored 11 of his 17 points and Antioch made a 22-7 run but still trailed 60-47 going into the final quarter.

The Panthers wouldn't let the Sequoits get any closer.

Antioch's Lamarr Pottinger added 11 points.

"I thought our effort was in spurts," Antioch coach Michael Skinner said. "Round Lake has a bunch athletic, street-ball type kids.

"Our guys are doing things that are expected of them. We don't have anybody that goes over and beyond. We were able to take some charges, but this was brutal."

Round Lake also got good efforts from Javier Martinez dropping (11 points) and Mike Mpokota (10).

Grant 67, Wauconda 60 (OT): Grant outscored Wauconda 13-6 in overtime to capture its third straight win.

Mike Shields led Grant (13-6, 4-4 North Suburban Prairie) with 32 points. Curtis Oler added 12.

Wauconda (9-12, 1-7) received 13 points from Connor Dimick and 11 apiece from Bryce Lahrman (three 3-pointers) and Eric Grozavescu.
