Maine Township open house
Maine Township will host an open house 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 3, at town hall, 1700 Ballard Road, Park Ridge. Admission is free but donations of nonperishable food are requested. Residents will see exhibits by township departments, including outdoor displays of equipment used by the highway department and the Emergency Management Agency, get guided tours and meet a historical dramatist in character as President Abraham Lincoln. Fundraiser for children
K's For Kids will hold a fundraiser at 6 p.m. March 16, at The Ram, 700 N. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling. The evening includes dinner, a curl of beer and a tour of The Ram's brewery, all for $35. K's for Kids, a dream of the late coach, teacher, and Cubs fan, Tom Bujnowksi, provides opportunities for children to attend Cubs games and promotes positive life experiences through baseball. There will be a raffle featuring Cubs items, tickets for the upcoming 2009 season and other baseball memorabilia. Deadline for reservations is March 9. Schaumburg scholarships
Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson has announced the 16th annual Community Scholarship Program along with the Work force Board of Northern Cook County and the Northwest Municipal Conferences. Each award, not to exceed $1,000, will be paid directly to the educational institution. A committee will select the winner. Applications are available from the mayor's office or at www.villageofschaumburg.com under "What's New." Applications along with two references will be accepted until 3 p.m. March 27 at the mayor's office, 101 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg, IL 60193. The recipient will be notified by April 10 of the award, which is valid until June 15, 2010.
Recycling event needs helpers
Volunteers are needed to help with Des Plaines' computer recycling event on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the city's public works building, 1111 Joseph Schwab Road. Event volunteers will direct and greet residents dropping off unwanted computer equipment and help unload their cars and packing the equipment onto the recycling truck. To sign up, call (847) 391-5650. The recycling event runs from 89 a.m. to noon. Volunteers must report at 8 a.m. and wrap up work at 1 p.m.
