Arena Football League future uncertain
Are they or aren't they?
Are Arena Football League owners poised to cancel the 2009 season as mounting losses and a down-trending economy merge to form the perfect storm?
Or is next season still a go, as those in the know with the Chicago Rush claim it is?
Right now there's more noise out there than a TV timeout during an AFL game.
On one side there is Los Angeles Avengers owner Casey Wasserman, who told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday that a decision has already been made, there will be no 2009 season.
"By suspending play for a year - in cooperation with our players and our partners - it allows us to get the perspective to try and make the decisions that are in the best interest of the long-term viability of the league," Wasserman said. "It's important for the Arena Football League to think about the next 20 years."
On the other side are the folks at Rush headquarters who are pushing ahead as if its business as usual.
"We're fully planning on playing next season," Rush president and general manager Mike Polisky said. "We're planning on winning the championship next year."
Stay tuned.
