Roselle layoffs delayed:

The deadline has been extended to Dec. 31 to layoff two rookie police officers in Roselle. The Roselle Village Board decided this week to extend the Tuesday, Dec. 1, deadline that would eliminate two patrol officers due to budget constraints. Roselle officials and Metropolitan Alliance of Police Chapter 258, which represents 27 Roselle Police Department employees, are negotiating cost-saving measures. "The board hopes both parties can continue to work together to avoid layoffs," said Village Administrator Jeff O'Dell. "But no agreement has been reached yet." Roselle is facing a $1 million shortfall in its operating fund, 75 percent of which is devoted to employee payroll.
