Meet hopefuls for CLC president post

The community is invited to attend a series of open forums through Dec. 17 to introduce the four finalists in the College of Lake County presidential search.

They are: Raymond Cummiskey, president of Southeastern Illinois College, Harrisburg, Ill.; James Rock, CLC interim president; Vicky Smith, president of Neosho County Community College, Chanute, Kan.; and Girard "Jerry" Weber, president of Kankakee Community College, Kankakee, Ill.

Today's forums feature Rock from 8:15 to 9 a.m. in room V120 at the Southlake Campus, Vernon Hills; 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. in room N214 at the Lakeshore Campus, Waukegan; and 12:30 to 2 p.m. in room P119 (Studio Theatre) at the Grayslake Campus.

Forums with Cummiskey are Monday, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in room V122 at the Southlake Campus; 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in room UCW 316 at the Lakeshore Campus; and 2 to 3:30 p.m. in room P119 at the Grayslake Campus.

Forums with Smith are Wednesday, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in room V120 at the Southlake Campus; 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in room S205 at the Lakeshore Campus; and 2 to 3:30 p.m. in room P119 at the Grayslake Campus.

Forums with Weber were Dec. 3.

The dates and times of the forums and candidate biographical information are listed on the college's Web site at clcillinois.edu/presidentialsearch.

CLC staff and forum attendees can provide feedback through a survey on the college intranet, said Evelyn Schiele, special assistant to the president.

The survey evaluates how well each candidate measures up to the ideal characteristics identified for the job. Criteria includes how well each candidate encourages campus dialogue, understands the district's educational needs, understands the diverse socio-economic population, understands technology needs and strives for continuous improvement.

Along with interviews and site visits, Schiele said the forums will help develop a picture of each candidate.

Trustees expect to name the new president at the January board meeting.
