Car in fatal Fla. accident linked to ex-Hoffman Estates man

A former Hoffman Estates man is the owner of a Porsche believed to be involved in a hit-and-run collision that killed two British tourists in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Feb. 13, Florida police said.

Ryan M. LeVin, 34, who police said now lives in Fort Lauderdale, has not been charged nor named as a suspect in the incident, Fort Lauderdale police Sgt. Frank Sousa said.

The two Brits - Craig Lewis Elford, 39, and Kenneth Watkinson, 48 - were reportedly struck at 2:25 a.m. when one of two white sports cars traveling at a high rate of speed lost control and veered onto the sidewalk on the 400 block of Seabreeze Boulevard.

Neither vehicle stopped, fleeing the scene in their original southbound direction.

Police later located an abandoned Porsche on an exressway ramp. Damage to the Porsche was consistent with what the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run would have sustained, police said.

The investigation of the incident is continuing, Sousa said.

Fort Lauderdale attorney Keith B. Seltzer said Thursday that he is representing LeVin, but had no further statement to make for the time being.

In addition to Hoffman Estates, a list of LeVin's former addresses includes Barrington; Chicago; Bellaire, Tex.; and Tempe, Ariz. It also includes the address of Schaumburg-based Jewels by Park Lane, a company its Web site says was founded in 1955 by Arthur and Shirley LeVin.
