Cary sports center referendum passes
Sometimes, it takes two tries to make a thing go right.
This time, Cary residents can say hello to a new multipurpose sports center.
According to unofficial vote totals, 5,607 people said yes to the Cary Park District's pending sale of 87 acres on the western portion of Hoffman Park, while 4,553 said no.
The district last floated the measure in 2007 and it failed by 140 votes.
Money generated from the sale will be used to build the sports center at Cary-Grove Park that's estimated to cost between $16 million and $26 million.
