Streamwood High principal to leave for Evanston assistant job
Come July, Principal Oscar Hawthorne will leave Streamwood High School for the North Shore.
Hawthorne officially was named Monday as the replacement for Marilyn Madden as Evanston Township High School's assistant principal.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for Hawthorne. Before becoming Streamwood's principal in 2005, he served as Evanston's dean of students from 2003-2005.
In his new role, he will be responsible for all student operations, including developing and improving curriculum, managing the building, personnel services and student activities.
Evanston District 202 Superintendent Eric Witherspoon called Hawthorne a "proven leader" with a "student-centered approach."
No one has yet been selected to fill his position at Streamwood High School, Elgin Area School District U-46 officials said Tuesday.
Hawthorne could not be reached for comment.
