Courthouse Square a great fit in downtown Wheaton

With restored facades and renovated interiors, the DuPage County Courthouse and State's Attorney's Office Building mix with new residences nearby at Courthouse Square. The master-planned, mixed use community will include 50 Georgetown-style row houses and six condominiums in downtown Wheaton.

The row houses by Airhart Construction feature luxury residences with four levels and a private, in-home elevator. With Phase III sales now underway, buyers can select from three designs with three to four bedrooms, 31/2 baths, rooftop terrace, two-car garage and a courtyard patio off the first level in most residences.

The row houses feature brick Georgian exteriors and are constructed around elevated, landscaped central courtyards that include brick paving, generous patio areas and completely enclosed parking, said Heather Mistele, sales manager for West Chicago-based Airhart Construction.

The State's Attorney's Office Building will house the property's shared facilities: a community center, fitness center, outdoor pool and a fully furnished hospitality suite complete with a gourmet kitchen for parties and meetings. Buyers will enjoy these amenities as soon as they move into their homes, Mistele said.

"New homeowners will be right in the center of the action in Wheaton. They can visit local coffee houses and the nearby Wheaton Public Library, take advantage of convenient commuter rail service, and frequent several neighborhood restaurants."

The Blanchard row house, priced from $739,000, features 3,200 square feet on four levels, three bedrooms, 31/2 baths; a private, in-home elevator that is a standard inclusion; and a two-car underground heated garage.

The model showcases a sophisticated traditional interior by Vonla Airhart with soft golds and blue tones.

"Shelburn buff walls and an off-white trim throughout the home goes beautifully with the antique cabinets and Oriental rugs. And this model shows how you can have an updated look and still use some of your treasures you have collected along the way," Airhart said.

On the main floor, a private foyer enters into the great room, which is open to the dining room. Two sofas and two leather recliners sit around the fireplace, while crown molding, gold silk draperies and an Oriental rug contribute to the elegant feel of the space. The dining room table sits ready to host a formal dinner for guests.

With a well-equipped and beautiful kitchen, owners will enjoy not only cooking but spending time in this space, which features custom silver maple cabinets topped with granite, a gourmet island with eating bar and a large pantry. A small table and chairs create an intimate breakfast spot while the room opens onto the courtyard patio.

On the second level, the master bedroom suite features soft gold for a restful, soothing ambience. Silk covers the bed and windows while a sitting area allows for relaxation before bedtime. His-and-hers custom closets organize owners' wardrobes. Also shown with luxury draperies and sheers, the bath has two sinks, corner soaking tub and walk-in shower with clear glass door.

A second bedroom is outfitted as a home office while a laundry room and another bath complete this floor.

With access to a private roof terrace, the upper level offers the ultimate entertainment space. Two leather sofas in a gold-brown give the room a subdued, sophisticated look and is open to the kitchen area. With an inviting third bedroom and full bath, this level could also well function as an in-law suite.

The lower level includes the two-car underground garage and home theater room.

"The Blanchard, like any of our designs at Courthouse Square, can be extensively customized to cater to buyers' distinctive tastes and lifestyle preferences," Mistele said. "We can move walls, reconfigure living spaces, add a computer niche, expand a closet - you name it - we can accommodate those requests. Our layouts are extremely flexible."

Only a few row houses remain in Phase II, each available for early 2009 occupancy. The interiors are unbuilt so buyers can personalize the rooms and living spaces to their liking, Mistele said.

The Blanchard model and sales center at 313 Liberty St. is open from noon to 5 p.m. daily except Tuesday and Friday, when appointments may be scheduled.

To reach the community from I-88, take I-355 north and exit at Roosevelt Road west; take Roosevelt Road to Naperville Road; turn right and take Naperville Road to Liberty Street; turn right and follow the signs to the model.
