High-paid positions don't sound charitable
A recent letter to the editor advocated charitable contributions. That followed an article regarding the dismissal of Rod Blagojevich's wife from her $100,000-a-year post as a fundraiser for a charity.
This is way out of line. How many hungry people could be fed and/or sheltered with that sum of money?
I strongly suspect that this is just the tip of the iceberg. How many charities have high paid executives? I suspect most if not all.
Public audits should be required. Some religious-oriented groups may be clean, but the rest are just businesses fattening someone's pocket. One prominent one has a lakeside summer camp in southern Wisconsin for its leaders and their families.
I'll continue to donate to my church's charities since I have seen data regarding the funds received and their distribution.
