Wheaton robbery suspect arrested

A 30-year-old Lombard man has been arrested in connection with a strong-arm robbery on Valentine's Day in Wheaton, authorities said Tuesday.

Donald L. Brown, of 890 Foxworth Blvd., Apt. 202, has been charged with strong-arm robbery and aggravated battery, police said.

Authorities said the robbery occurred about 7:20 a.m. Saturday on the 600 block of South Sunset Road. A woman was stepping our of her car in her driveway when a man walked up and asked for directions. The woman continued to walk toward her home as she responded. At that point, the man grabbed the victim's purse and knocked her to the ground.

Police said the suspect fled on foot with the purse, entered a silver vehicle and sped off. The victim, who sustained minor injuries, called 911.

Wheaton police responded and broadcast a description of the suspect and vehicle.

Within minutes, Glen Ellyn police found Brown in a parking lot at 599 Roosevelt Road.

He was taken to DuPage County jail. Bond has been set at $500,000, authorities said.
