Campbell finally makes things happen on offense

If there was a bright spot in Sunday's 6-5 loss to San Jose, it was defenseman Brian Campbell turning his offensive game up a notch.

Campbell had a goal and 2 assists after admitting the day before that he was struggling to find his way in his first few games with the Blackhawks.

"It's not about getting points, it's about getting chances," Campbell said. "I wasn't letting it happen and just going and having fun out there. I was kind of backed into a shell. It wasn't that I was playing bad, I just can do more out there and I expect more from myself."

Campbell played almost 26 minutes, which was more ice time than both Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook got.

Time to go: Is there such a thing as being home for too long?

Coach Joel Quenneville didn't say no after Sunday's loss to the Sharks ended a five-game homestand that saw the Hawks in town for more than two weeks.

"I'm not using that as an excuse, but I'm not a fan of playing five home games in a row," Quenneville said. "There's usually something in there you don't like."

The Hawks went an OK 2-1-2 on the homestand, but they dropped the last three games, including a shootout loss to Boston and an overtime loss to St. Louis.

The Hawks blew a third-period lead in losing to the Sharks on Sunday.

"It would have made for a decent homestand," Quenneville said.

Down on the farm: Center Petri Kontiola has 6 goals and 9 assists in 16 games at Rockford in the American Hockey League while Jack Skille has 3 goals and 6 assists in 11 games since being sent down by the Hawks.

Defenseman Jordan Hendry has no points in nine games since going back down and is minus-2.

Goalie Antti Niemi is 5-3-1 with a 1.63 goals-against average and .943 save percentage.
