• Sign up now to schedule an audition for the Elgin Children's Chorus. It is a special opportunity for singers to join midyear. They will hold auditions from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive in Elgin. The chorus strives to provide the very best in music education to area young people. Membership is open to all children with unchanged voices, ages 7 through 16. • Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice offers Footprints, a six-week program that supports parents and adult family members who are coping with a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth or newborn death. Footprints begins Monday, Jan. 5, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the hospice, 200 Whitfield Drive, Geneva. It is free but registration is required at (630) 232-2233 or info@fvvh.org.

• The continued public hearing for the St. Charles Towne Centre project (former St. Charles Mall site) will be held at the St. Charles Plan Commission's next regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers, 2 E. Main St. The continued public hearing originally scheduled for Dec. 16 was canceled due to the weather. Site plans and a summary of the development proposal are posted on the Community Development Department page under "Development Project Documents". • Starting Jan. 6, The Salvation Army, 1710 S. Seventh Ave. in St. Charles, offers line dancing from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays. The program is free. Old-timers or new dancers are welcome to learn and dance together. Whether you're brand new to line dancing, or have been dancing for years, it is great fun and great exercise. Line dancing is for both young and not-so-young, single or married. No partner is necessary. Maria Trejo of the Kane County Extension Services will lead in the dancing and fun each week. • Owls are fascinating night birds and winter evenings are great times to observe their interesting ways. Learn about owl adaptations and folklore as you hike the trails in search of these winged hunters at the Family Owl Hike from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Campton Hills Park, Campton Hills and Peck roads. • The Campton Hills Police and Fire Commission will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the village hall office, 40W155 Campton Hills Crossing, Unit B.

• The Campton Hills Public Works Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Campton Township Community Center, 5N082 Old LaFox Road.

• "Winter Garden of Youth Art," an exhibit of work by Aurora students, runs through Jan. 11 at the Aurora Public Art Commission's gallery in the David L. Pierce Art and History Center, 20 E. Downer Place. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Admission is $3, or $1.50 for students and seniors. Admission is free for children 12 and younger. • The Town and Country Public Library, 320 E. North St. in Elburn, hosts "Read to Succeed." The Chicago Wolves hockey team is again sponsoring the Read to Succeed reading program at the library. This program is open to students of all ages who have a valid library card from Town and Country Public Library. Read to Succeed runs through Monday, Feb. 2. • The Tri-Cities Soccer Association is accepting late registrations for the spring 2009 outdoor recreational soccer season. The 10-game season begins Saturday, April 4 and runs through Saturday, June 6. The games are played at park district fields in the Tri-Cities. The spring 2009 fee is $65 for age 5 to 18.
