Hotel partnership announced
The Woodfield Chicago Northwest Convention Bureau has established a new marketing partnership with the Westin Chicago Northwest in Itasca, which could become a model for other such hotel partnerships within the bureau's jurisdiction. Bureau President Fran Bolson said the partnership represents a step forward in the promotion of the hospitality industry, which plays an important role in the economy of the Northwest suburbs. Further partnerships may be established individually based on bureau resources, Bolson said. The Westin Chicago Northwest recently completed a renovation that included environmentally friendly features.
More pizzas for soldiers
Pizza 4 Patriots, which delivered 2,056 pizzas to Iraq and the Middle East for Independence Day, now is focused on sending pizzas for soldiers to eat while watching the Super Bowl. The Elk Grove Village-based effort is planning to ship a Super Bowl Party, including pizzas and beer. DHL has agreed to again provide shipping and General David Petraeus has again approved the project. Money Summit Saturday
A Money Summit workshop on the economic crisis and how to deal with it will be offered at no charge from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Countryside Unitarian Universalist Church, 1025 N. Smith Road, Palatine. Speakers' topics are "The Basics of Banking and Money Creation," "The Subprime Meltdown and its Consequences" and "Global Economics and Trade and the Evolving Economic Crisis." Basic boat safety classes held
Boater's World in Schaumburg will host six sessions of a two-day basic boating safety class through midsummer. The classes will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. The sessions are Jan. 24 and 31; Feb. 21 and 28; April 18 and 25; May 9 and 16; June 6 and 13; and July 25 and 28. The cost is $40 per individual or $50 per family.
