Two 3-way contests highlight spring ballots
A pair of three-way races for village president seats will go before voters in April as the result of candidate filings Tuesday.
After the death of Fox River Grove President Kay Laube in September, three people have declared their intent to succeed her.
Robert J. Nunamaker, Suzanne Blohm and Paulette J. Pelletier each filed petitions to run for the four-year seat, which will be decided in the April 7 election.
Each has experience with the village government. Nunamaker currently is a member of the village's plan commission, Blohm is a former trustee, and Pelletier is a current trustee.
Trustee Cindy Cramer is serving as acting president and has said she will not seek the president's seat. Trustees Dennis R. Bowman and Gerald D. Menzel also filed petitions seeking re-election in Fox River Grove.
In East Dundee, Trustee James Carlini and former Village President Jerald Bartels will challenge incumbent Daniel O'Leary for the village president post.
Incumbent Robert Gorman and challengers Paul VanOstenbridge and Howard Schock have filed to run for three open trustee seats.
Tuesday was the first day of candidate petition filing for several villages and cities that were closed for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
In Huntley, incumbent trustees Pam Fender, Paul Mercer and John Piwko filed petitions Tuesday to get on the April ballot. So far, they have no challengers.
Five others, including Mayor Chuck Sass, have taken out petitions for elected village posts but have not yet submitted required paperwork.
A lottery will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 28 to determine ballot order.
In Algonquin, Village President John Schmitt and Village Clerk Gerald Kautz both filed to run for re-election. Incumbent trustees Robert Smith and Jerry Glogowski also filed papers to run for two of the three trustee seats that will be decided this spring.
The filing period runs through 5 p.m. Monday.
