Founders Row adds to attractive downtown

Founders Row presents 14 new row houses with brick exteriors, front porches and private entrances in the heart of Mount Prospect's vibrant downtown district.

With soaring peaked rooflines, the two-and three-story semi-custom residences make a towering presence that complements the stature of the nearby village hall, library and other civic neighbors.

Norwood Builders recently opened a new model at the community, which was inspired by Lincoln Park's McCormick row houses. The model is one of two home designs available that feature three bedrooms, 21/2 baths, full basement and two-car garage. Bluestone patios overlook private landscaped backyards and beautifully planted courtyards.

Standard amenities include granite or Corian countertops, nickel-finished hardware, security and intercom entry system, hardwood floors throughout the main living area, a formal staircase, fireplace, nine-foot ceilings, kitchen island and breakfast bar, and master bath with a soaking tub and separate shower.

"Inside, no two homes are exactly alike," said Bruce Adreani, president of Norwood Builders. "We offer extensive customizing possibilities as befits homes of this caliber. If what the buyer wants is structurally and mechanically possible, we can make it happen."

Founders Row is a 2008 award-winning community recognized by the Mason Contractors Association of Greater Chicago. Double-wide walls and reinforced masonry construction provide owners with a private, quiet retreat, Adreani said.

The four-level model row house is priced from $904,900 and offers 4,446 square feet, three bedrooms, 31/2 baths, a full basement and two-car garage.

Although people of all ages purchase in the neighborhood, the model interior shows traditional furnishings with an artsy flair geared toward the younger buyer. A black, beige and bronze palette gives the home a sophisticated ambience.

The entry foyer brings you into the formal living room where furniture sits around the built-in gas log fireplace with marble surround and bookcases on either side. An area rug adds texture and pattern to the space. Also part of the living room, a sitting area with a table and two chairs offers a perfect spot for a cup of tea or game of Scrabble near the warmth of the fireplace.

A convenient butler pantry allows homeowners to entertain with ease.

In the dining room, festive place settings top a large square table that sits eight, so it's a spacious room that allows for flexibility. A china cabinet with sconces on either side displays favorite pieces. Windows overlook the courtyard.

Open to the dining room and family room, the kitchen features stainless steel appliances, glazed cabinetry with ceramic tile backsplash, walk-in pantry, separate breakfast bar and center island with butcher block top.

Beyond the kitchen, lots of windows and skylights brighten the family room furnished with a sofa, chair and credenza with plasma TV above. A candle display and plant top the large coffee table.

Inside the rear entry is a closet and mud room with bench.

The next level up houses a master suite, two secondary bedrooms, second full bath, linen closet and laundry area.

The master suite features plush carpeting, dark wood furnishings and dual walk-in closets with shelving. The ultra luxury master bath includes dual sinks, soaking tub with optional whirlpool jets, separate walk-in shower with clear glass door and private water closet. Ceramic tile covers the floor and tub and shower surround.

Secondary bedrooms with wardrobe closets include a room for the Iowa student and a room furnished with a day bed loaded with pillows.

The third level features more than 500 square feet of flexible bonus space shown as an entertainment room, game room and adjacent home office for two. This level also has a full bath.

A full basement completes the interior and is ideal for a future recreational, fitness or storage area.

Business Week recently named Mount Prospect the best place in the nation to raise children. The most heavily weighted qualifiers were school performance, housing affordability and safety.

Nearby attractions within walking distance include the village hall and library campus, coffee shop, dry cleaners and various shops, banks and restaurants along with area parks and recreation.

To visit the new Founders Row model, take Route 83 (Elmhurst Road) to Northwest Highway, east to Emerson Street and turn left. The model is two blocks north at 5 S. Emerson St.
