Man arrested after standoff in McHenry

A 22-year-old McHenry man is facing criminal charges in connection with an early Saturday morning standoff with police at his home, authorities said.

Scott A. Gallagher, of 3518 W. Vine St., has been charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and battery, authorities said.

McHenry police went to Gallagher's address about 1:20 a.m. Saturday after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor.

Police couldn't get Gallagher to answer the door but didn't enter the house because they were only responding to a noise complaint initially.

After their first unsuccessful attempt to speak to Gallagher, police received another 911 call from a woman who claimed that he earlier waved a gun and fired two shots at people who were in the garage.

At that point, police established a perimeter around the home and tried to contact Gallagher with cell phones and loud speakers.

When Gallagher refused to respond, police entered the house and arrested him without incident. Two women who were inside the home also were arrested.

It's unclear whether anyone was injured before the police officers arrived. A small amount of blood was found on the door handle of the house, authorities said.

McHenry police were assisted by the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System, a SWAT team that serves McHenry County.

Authorities didn't say how long the standoff lasted. Roads that were closed during the standoff reopened around 7:30 a.m.

Gallagher was being held at the McHenry County jail and is scheduled to appear in bond court on Monday. Authorities didn't have information on whether any charges were filed against the two women.
