How to get rid of your tree for free

During January, Groot Recycling and Waste Services, the refuse hauler for the village of Cary, will collect Christmas trees at no additional charge to Cary residents.

The trees will be collected on Thursdays, Jan. 8-29. Jan. 1 is not a scheduled tree collection day. Residents who choose to take advantage of this free service are asked to make sure the Christmas trees are placed on the curb before 6:30 a.m. on the designated day.

The Christmas trees will be chipped by Groot and recycled for further use. Trees must be free of tinsel, garland, ornaments, lights and other decorations.

For details on the Christmas tree collection or recycling services, call Tara Semenchuk, assistant to the village administrator, at (847) 639-0003.
