Elk Grove Village man charged in Buffalo Grove bank robbery

An Elk Grove Village man already charged for a string of robberies in Schaumburg has also been charged with robbing a bank in Buffalo Grove, the FBI said Monday.

That robbery occurred around 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at the Harris Bank, 1190 N. McHenry Road. More than $13,000 was taken after the robber ordered several tellers to empty contents of their cash drawers in a black bag.

A criminal complaint was filed last Wednesday against Robert Maday, 38, of the 500 block of Biesterfield Road, Elk Grove Village, for the bank robbery, a felony offense, according to the FBI.

According to complaint, the robber entered wearing a ski mask, opened the left side of his jacket and displayed what appeared to be the butt of a handgun to a teller.

Maday was arrested two hours after the robbery by the Schaumburg police department for multiple traffic offenses, including going 82 mph in the 40 mph zone on Martingale Road near Schaumburg Road.

When the Schaumburg officer pulled Maday over, he found a pellet gun and several toy replicas of guns, police said. Officers also found cocaine, a ski mask and more than $15,000 in cash, according to reports. Maday was turned over to the FBI Wednesday, Dec. 31, and is being held without bond at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago.

On Friday, Jan. 2, Schaumburg police said they had charged Maday with four counts of aggravated robbery for incidents that happened in October and also charged him with possession of a controlled substance.

The Schaumburg robberies all involved purse snatchings where a handgun was displayed or implied.
