Singh, Pats score a win

The Stevenson boys soccer is getting plenty of scoring these days.

Patriots sophomore Sean Singh joined the act by scoring goals a minute apart in the first half and senior Colin Pekovitch netted another as Stevenson shut out visiting Warren 3-0 on Monday afternoon at the Vernon Hills Athletic Complex in Vernon Hills.

The contest was rescheduled from last Tuesday, when inclement weather forced the postponement.

Stevenson (9-3-2) remained unbeaten in the North Suburban Lake at 3-0-1, while Warren dropped to 6-9-2 and 2-3 in the division.

Singh had been playing on defense for the Patriots early this year, but recently he moved forward. He helped out the attack with 2 incredible goals on Monday.

"I was like shocked and speechless," said Singh of his second and third goals of the season. "I'm originally a defender and it feels good to get them. These goals were important to help the team."

Singh scored the first one in the 31st minute after taking a low cross from Sam Claver in front for a Patriots 1-0 advantage.

The other Singh tally came a minute later when Pekovitch served a pass to the middle and Singh scored again, allowing Stevenson to get ahead by 2 goals.

Pekovitch notched an unassisted goal in the 45th minute with a 35-yard free kick.

The Patriots are in a tough stretch of NSC Lake games this week as they host Mundelein in the football stadium this evening at 6:15 p.m. and Lake Zurich on Thursday back at the Vernon Hills Athletic Complex.

"What I'm trying to do is keep this teeam focused," said Stevenson coach Mark Schartner, who used 23 players Monday. "It appears that by mixing things up and having them play multiple positions, it makes them more interested in the game than being in one position all the time.

"We just did a number of nice things offensively (against Warren). It was not a 3-0 game -- give Warren credit with the way they played."

Patriots keeper Ian Soose made 7 of his 9 saves in first half and earned his seventh shutout of the season.

"I really don't think we stayed with (Stevenson)," Warren coach Jim McNamara said. "I thought we gave it up and fell apart defensively."
