BC's Holthus named All-American volleyball player

Burlington Central senior Stephanie Holthus, the honorary captain of the Daily Herald's all-area girls volleyball team, has been named an All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The 6-foot Holthus, who has signed to play at Northwestern, will join the other 23 first-team All-American selections, in the 2nd Annual Under Armour All-American Match on Dec. 20 at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Fla.

Holthus, who led the Rockets to three straight Big Northern East championships and a second-place finish in the Class 3A state tournament as a junior, finished her career tied for 13th place in IHSA history with 1,338 career spike kills.

She was also a four-time unanimous all-conference selection, who longtime area coach and Rockets' mentor Marv Leavitt has called the best volleyball player he has ever coached.
