District 59 assistant superintendent retiring

Jennifer Hammerslag Placek, an assistant superintendent in Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59, will retire at the end of the month, officials said Saturday.

Placek has been the district's assistant superintendent for educational services for eight years, Superintendent Daniel R. Schweers said.

"She's always kept the best interest of the kids at the center of her thinking and her approach," Schweers said of Placek's work for the district.

Schweers said Placek has been talking about retiring, so officials were aware this was coming.

It's a bit late in the hiring season to replace Placek immediately, Schweers said. In the meantime, the district will tap other employees to run the department, until a better time to conduct a search for a replacement, he said.

Placek's retirement was added Saturday to the school board's agenda for a meeting on Monday night. The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the district administration center, 2123 S. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights.
