Free patient seminar on atrial fibrillation

Alexian Brothers Cardiovascular Institute will host a patient information seminar, "Atrial Fibrillation? You Have Options," from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Schaumburg Marriott, 50 N. Martingale Road, Schaumburg. Alexian Brothers physicians will explain catheter- and surgical-based ablation treatments. Free; register at (866) 253-9426.

Help Mike's supply bikes for needy kids

Mikes Bike Shop in Palatine is holding its eighth annual Bikes for Needy Kids Program with help from the Palatine Township Assistance Office and the community.

Bring in slightly used bikes to be refurbished, cleaned and distributed to needy families. Though bikes of all sizes are welcome, bikes for little boys and girls are especially needed. Recipients of the bicycles will be the Palatine Opportunity Center, Good Hope, churches, orphanages, boys and girls clubs and missionaries.

Bring bikes to the shop at 155 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine, during regular hours through Thanksgiving.

Community service award nominations

Hanover Township is accepting applications for the clerk's annual community service awards program. The five award categories are adult, youth and senior volunteer, clerk's choice and business community service award. Recipients will be honored at a banquet in March 2009. Nomination applications are available at township offices, 250 S. Route 59, Bartlett, or online at hanover-township.org.

House decorating contest and tour

To enter the Schaumburg Park District's Holiday House Decorating Contest, decorate your home before Dec. 8 and submit the entry form by 5 p.m. on Nov. 28. Entry forms are available in the winter brochure or at park district facilities. No entry fee is required.

The Holiday House Decorating Tour is being held from 6-8:30 p.m. Dec. 8, with the bus leaving from the north entrance of the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. Cost is $4-$5 and is required by 5 p.m. on Nov. 28. Call, (847) 490-7020 or visit parkfun.com.
