It's about trust, Gov. Blagojevich

Dear Governor Blagojevich,

Your recent disgrace on being arrested created a serious problem in the State of Illinois. You have stated publicly that you are innocent and that you will fight to defend your reputation in court and retain your position as Governor while doing so.

While this is your right, it doesn't make it right for the people of Illinois who elected you.

The trust people placed in you no longer exists. The support you once had is gone. Your ability to lead the state through these difficult economic times has eroded.

You can no longer function effectively as a Governor. Everyone in the state realizes this but you. If, as you say, you truly care about the people of Illinois then you need to resign now.

It's not as if you were to be found innocent in some future court proceeding that you will magically recapture the trust of the people in this great state.

You have lost our trust forever, so please do the honorable thing and resign. Your future guilt or innocence is not a factor at this point.
