Woman injured after car hits tree in Fox River Grove

Alcohol and high speeds are likely to blame for a car crash late Wednesday that left a 37-year-old Fox River Grove woman in critical condition, police said.

Caryn Leers suffered serious injuries about 10 p.m. when she lost control of her car and it struck a tree at the corner of Algonquin Road and Gladys Avenue in Fox River Grove.

Rescue crews extracted Leers from the car about 10:30 p.m., fire officials said, and she was then flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in critical condition. An update on her condition was not available Thursday.

Leers has been charged with DUI, Fox River Grove Police Chief Ron Lukasik said Thursday.

"The two factors in the crash we've been able to determine at this point are excessive speed and alcohol," he said.
