McHenry father and sons busted on drug charges

The McHenry County Sheriff's Department announced Friday the arrest of three family members from McHenry on drugs charges.

Joseph R. Kvacik, 60 and his two sons, Joseph M. Kvacik, 34 and Michael Kvacik, 29, all from the same home on the 5400 block of Thelen Drive, were each charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of marijuana, police said.

Michael Kvacik was stopped on Tuesday in Lakemoor by state police and trace amounts of narcotics and $4,000 in cash were found in his car, according to a news release.

McHenry County Sheriff's police, state police and the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group went to the home later on Tuesday.

Police said Joseph Kvacik Sr. attempted to flee through the back door of the home and most of the drugs that they recovered were in his possession when he was detained.

Police say they found 215 grams of cocaine, 265 grams of marijuana, 21/2 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms and material for processing drugs including a press used for packaging, cutting agents and plastic bags in the home.

Also seized in connection with the search of the home were a boat, where a small amount of drugs were found, and $32,868 in cash, police said.

The father, Joseph R. Kvacik, was released from the McHenry County jail Friday morning after posting a $15,000 bond.

His sons, Michael and Joseph M. Kvacik, remained in the jail Friday morning, both with bonds of $12,500.

"We've known about these individuals for some time," said Sgt. John Koziol of the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. "We received Crimestopper tips about them, and we take these drug complaints seriously."
