Embezzler gets 33 months
A Crystal Lake man was sentenced to 33 months in prison this week for embezzling more than $900,000 from a Chicago bank. Stephen Jacquin, 48, was also ordered to pay $916,000 in restitution to the Private Bank and Trust Co. at 70 W. Madison St. in Chicago. Jacquin pleaded guilty June 8 to one count of bank fraud. He was a loan operations officer at Private and arranged a fake line of credit, accessing it between 2000 and November 2006, his plea agreement said. Jacquin was sentenced Tuesday, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Rubenstein. Jacquin's attorney, Denise Nalley, could not be reached for comment late Wednesday.

Help cops help kids
The Shop with a Cop program seeks donations to support its goal of providing at least 125 underprivileged children the opportunity to buys gifts this holiday season. Officers from the East and West Dundee, Gilberts and Sleepy Hollow police departments will take kids shopping at the East Dundee Wal-Mart on Dec. 15, each with $75 to spend. Donations can be made online at shopwacop.org. Proceeds from the sale of cards, ornaments and T-shirts, available at the four participating police departments, also help raise money for the program. A raffle sponsored by Bandito Barney's and Rosie O'Hare's in East Dundee will also benefit the program. Tickets are available at both locations.
Dist. 158 sets super goals
The Huntley Unit District 158 school board has decided to make Superintendent John Burkey's goals the same 13 goals the board set for the district as a whole. "We have 13 goals. We prioritized them. Just use them," board Vice President Tony Quagliano said. "These are definitely the basis for his performance goals." The board decided to use the prioritized list to evaluate Burkey's performance instead of a list of five goals suggested by board President Shawn Green. Burkey said the goals set by the board would help him decide how to spend his time and energy. The superintendent goals are set to go to a vote at the board's Dec. 20 meeting.
