Mount Prospect man indicted in mother's death

A Cook County grand jury has indicted Mount Prospect resident Paul Castronovo, 43, on charges of first-degree murder and concealment of a homicide in the December death of his mother Mary Castronovo at her home on the zero block of Debbie Drive in Mount Prospect. The indictment was announced Friday in a Rolling Meadows courtroom.

Mount Prospect police went to the house on Dec. 18 after another son reported his 76-year-old mother missing. The defendant, who also lived at the address, met them at the door.

Police discovered the victim in a furnace room covered by a rug.

In a videotaped statement to police Castronovo admitted to strangling his mother a week earlier, authorities say.

If convicted, Castronovo faces 20 to 60 years in prison. He remains in Cook County Jail on a $5 million bond. His next court date is Feb. 5.
