Scandals have left a broken society

It seems like every day a new scandal or breach of trust is brought into the open. The people who took out mortgages and were not informed of the consequences of buying into an adjustable mortgage have fallen prey to the deceit of the mortgage lenders who were trying to sell as many as they could. Greed drove the issuance of mortgages that would never have been granted 40 years ago.

Then we read about Bernard Madoff and all the people he deceived through his Ponzi dealings. Again, greed and deceit have left many people and organizations bankrupt or struggling financially. I read that he is under police protection.

Years ago I heard a statement that resounds with truth. These situations reminded me of this: We don't break God's laws, we break ourselves against them.
