Addison brothers held in stabbing

Two brothers are expected to be arraigned Tuesday on charges they stabbed two men in a gang-related dispute last month in Addison.

Prosecutors said the violence erupted Aug. 17 when 21-year-old Juan Ramirez got into a fist fight with two men on the 600 block of Lullo Court. Ramirez is accused of stabbing both men with a knife that his younger brother, Jose A. Gasca, 17, handed him during the fight.

The victims, Tony J. Santiago and Hector Valdez, were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Authorities said Santiago was released, but Valdez remained Monday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for internal injuries.

The brothers, both of whom live in Addison's troubled Michael Lane apartments, are charged with armed violence and aggravated battery.

Ramirez also is facing unlawful use of a weapon by a felon charges. He was paroled from prison just four days before the fight after serving part of a three-year term for burglary, according to court records.

A DuPage County grand jury indicted both men last week. They are expected to plead innocent Tuesday when arraigned. Gasca is being held in the DuPage County jail on a $200,000 bond. Ramirez remains held on a $250,000 bond.
