Grateful incumbents were re-elected

On behalf of the Barrington Park District Board of Commissioners I'd like to thank the voters for re-electing Jon Stickney and Linda Hovde to the Park District Board of Commissioners.

Linda and Jon have become part of a team that have helped to strengthen the park district both in its facilities and programs as well as maintain its financial stability. As taxpayers ourselves, we are mindful of the responsibilities we have in promoting the recreational and health benefits of the park district, while not placing the taxpayer in any financial risk.

Voters have supported four referendums in eight years. We have been able to build the award-winning Citizens Park and now the Langendorf recreation center, which will allow residents to participate in additional programs which previously were unavailable due to space.

This summer we are offering 351 program opportunities for ages 12-14 and 230 for teens 15-17. Our summer breakaway camps for teens are a regional model and we have among the largest ski club attendance in the area.

We are also the highest employer of youth in Barrington with over 80 lifeguards, camp counselors, and instructors. Our award winning Pepper Family Tree house was funded solely on donated dollars and the Bash Skate Park was built with matching dollars from fundraising community efforts. We have partnered with Harris Bank, Barrington Bank and Trust, Good Shepherd Hospital, Quaker Oats, and other companies to provide concerts, services, and programs which generate additional revenues.

With Lake County Forest Preserve we built the bike path connection with Cuba Marsh and Citizens Park and over five years we have received nearly $1 million in grants. Through sound investment practices we have also achieved the highest Moody's rating Aa2, for a park district of our size.

We have been recognized regionally, statewide and nationally for our innovative programs and facilities. The present board has over 46 years experience and over 135 years of residency in Barrington.

The staff and commissioners thank you for your ongoing support and look forward to serving you for many years to come.

Christine H. Garry, president
