Football preview: Highland Park at York
Nonconference
Game time: 7:30 p.m., today.
Last year: Did not play.
Outlook: Trading Highland Park for last year's opening-night foe Loyola -- which dealt the Dukes their sole regular-season loss, 30-29 -- is no picnic. The Giants, who won the Central Suburban North in 2006, ran their record to 7-3 in Class 7A. Highland Park returns quarterback Johnny Lindquist, who passed for nearly 2,500 yards last season. Good thing for York that, despite returning only third-year defensive tackle Anthony "Tito" Piszczor, its many lopsided victories in 2006 allowed new starters like Brian Gidcumb and Steve Cripe to get some reps. If Dukes coach Bill Lech has his way, though, Lindquist will watch from the sidelines as tailback Mike McNulty leads York's ground-based offense on long marches downfield.
Next week: Highland Park at Vernon Hills; Downers Grove South at York.
