Cats come up short again

Libertyville's girls volleyball team was seeking its first win of the season Thursday after dropping its season opener two nights earlier.

The Wildcats came up short again, however, falling to visiting New Trier 25-17, 25-18 in nonconference action.

"We played better tonight," coach Chris Trzyna said. "We did a better job with our transition game. Crucial serving errors stopped our momentum."

Libertyville (0-2) received 3 kills apiece from Alanna Connors and Megan Friedman. Sarah Caren was 21-of-21 setting with 4 assists.

Glenbrook S. d. Stevenson: The Patriots won the opening game but the Titans came back to capture a 17-25, 25-8, 25-20 victort.

Stevenson's Mary Kate Fritzsche had 8 kills and 10 digs. Maria Skillman added 5 kills, while Chelsea Furlan and Annelise Docel each served 4 aces. The Patriots (1-1) also got a team-best 16 digs from Izzy Shaindlin. Jenna Przybyla and Maggie Lundstrom lofted 10 and 9 assists, respectively.

Jacobs d. Grayslake Central: The Rams lost 25-15, 25-18, despite 4 kills from Tory Dohm and 6 digs from Shannon Curtis.

Richmond-Burton d. Lakes: Steffanie Fisher had 3 kills in the Eagles' 25-17, 25-18 loss.

Jenna Schellinger recorded 4 blocks and 2 kills for Lakes (0-2).

"We are still learning to pace our game," Eagles coach Carla Thompson said. "Tonight's game was an improvement over our first game.

"We had solid play from Jenna Schellinger at the net. Mandy Fisher continues to paly smart at the net. We still are a little bit off on our court communication."

Harvard d. Antioch: The Sequoits dropped a 25-16, 25-10 decision.

Antioch (0-2) received 2 kills apiece from Lauren Grant and Erica Lubkeman. Anne Bruce chalked up 10 digs and Lubkeman had nine. Martha Arntson and Megan Vladic registered 3 and 2 blocks, respectively.

Women's volleyball

Oakton d. Lake County: The Lancers fell in five games, despite 16 kills from Michelle Sims. Lake County got 11 kills apiece from Taylor Nobilio and Mallory Purtha, who also had 4 blocks. Melisa Ori dished out 29 assists for CLC (2-5).
