Fenton earns shutout
Things could not have been better for the Fenton Bison Friday night in Bensenville.
The Bison shut out Ridgewood 19-0 en route to their homecoming victory. The Metro Suburban Conference win over the Rebels (3-2, 1-1) broke a three-game losing and gave Fenton its first shutout of the season.
"Our defense played well," Fenton coach Mark Farrell said. "We got to the ball and after their quarterbacks. The goal-line stand in the third quarter was huge."
Fenton led 7-0 at halftime when center Benji Sciullo recovered a fumble in the end zone on the Bison's first drive of the game.
A 14-yard burst by Tyrell McGee gave Fenton (2-3, 1-1) a 13-0 lead with 8:49 left in the third quarter.
Following a fumble recovery at the Fenton 31, Ridgewood had a first and goal at the Bison 1-yard line.
A 5-yard illegal substitution penalty and a defensive stand led by Sciullo, Matt Heim and D.J. Anderson had Ridgewood turning over the ball on downs at the Fenton 3.
"When they got down to the one they were talking," Anderson said. "It just fired up the defense. They we're 3-1 coming into the game, so we knew they were good. We were not intimidated. We can build on this win."
Fenton then drove 97 yards in 18 plays while eating up 6:41 before Anderson scored from the 2 for the final scoring.
"I think we played a good game," Farrell said. "At times we looked good on offense. We had some turnovers that stopped a few more scores.
The Rebels finished with 109 yards of offense. Fenton picked up 315 yards.
Quarterback Ricky Prignano completed 7 of 11 passes for 80 yards and rushed 17 times for 105 yards for Fenton.
"We killed ourselves with penalties," Ridgewood coach Chris Zack said. "We would get two or three good plays, then a penalty. Fenton's defense played well, give them credit."
