Lake in the Hills cops: Sex offender was growing pot

A 22-year-old Lake in the Hills man wanted for ignoring the state's sex offender laws found himself in double trouble Friday after McHenry County officers say they discovered cannabis plants at his home.

Officers went to the home of Rodger D. Summers on the 1200 block of Spruce Street to arrest him for failing to register as a sex offender when he moved to the residence, a McHenry County Sheriff's news release said.

According to the release, when officers entered the home, they detected a strong smell of marijuana, which led to the discovery of an indoor growing operation,

Seven cannabis plants and 80 grams of processed cannabis in bags were found in a bedroom, the release said.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Unit is investigating the growing operation, the release stated.

Summers was charged with failure to register as a sex offender and held on $10,000 bond.
