Fox Valley Philharmonic announces its 2009 schedule
The Fox Valley Philharmonic announces the lineup for its third season which begins in February 2009. The orchestra is expanding its reach by performing several of its concerts outside of the Aurora area. Included in the series will be two holiday concerts with the Fox Valley Philharmonic Chorus.
The 2009 season kicks off with "Music for Two" which will include four concertos for double soloists. The program will feature members of the orchestra as soloists in Bach's "Concerto for Two Violins in D minor" and the "Concerto for Two Pianos in C minor," Doppler's "Concerto for Two Flutes," and Vivaldi's "Concerto for Two Cellos in G minor."
"Music for Two" will be performed at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22 in the Crimi Auditorium at Aurora University, 407 S. Calumet Ave.
"Love and Music" will be performed at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19 in the Hawks Auditorium at East Aurora High School, 500 Tomcat Lane in Aurora. Included on the program will be "La Muse et le poete" by Camille Saint-Saens and "Highlights from Phantom of the Opera." Also featured will be American composer Eric Ewazen's "Concerto for Marimba and String Orchestra."
The orchestra will be joined by the chorus for "American Voices II" at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 28 at the Norris Cultural Arts Center, 1040 Dunham Road in St. Charles. The program continues the exploration of music by American composers which began in the Philharmonic's first season. Rousing patriotic music will be featured as a prelude to the Independence Day Holiday.
Music from the movies and television will be highlighted in "Big Screen/Little Screen" when the orchestra visits the Performing Arts Center at Oswego East High School at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4. The program will feature an audience quiz to test how many movies, television shows or commercials are represented by the musical selections.
Closing out the 2009 season will by "Holiday Magic" at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 in the Norris Cultural Arts Center in St. Charles. The orchestra and chorus will start the season off with the music that lifts the spirit and sets the joyous tone for the holidays.
The Fox Valley Philharmonic is a community orchestra sponsored by The Fox Valley Academy of Music Performance which also operates the Fox Valley Youth Symphony Orchestras and the Access to Music program for underprivileged children. Members of the orchestra represent eighteen communities including Aurora, Batavia, Carol Stream, Chicago, Downers Grove, Elgin, Geneva, Hoffman Estates, Montgomery, Naperville, North Aurora, Oswego, Pingree Grove, Plano, St. Charles, Sterling, Westchester and Western Springs.
