Free hairdos for the holidays in Wheaton

Everybody needs a fresh, flattering hairdo for the holidays.

But in these tough economic times, not everyone can afford to pay for one.

That's why Demiri Hair Stylists in Wheaton is offering free haircuts from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Owner Fete Demiri, who set up shop at 965 W. Geneva Road about a year ago after her daughter became a hair stylist, said the business has been doing well.

"So I thought we can help somebody," she said. "The idea came from my heart."

She said haircuts will be available for everybody, including adults, teens, children and the homeless.

On a normal day, the haircuts would cost $5 at the shop.

Six stylists have volunteered to work the five hours Sunday to make people look extra good.

"I'd like to help the people who need haircuts," hair stylist Julie Lyons said. "I'd like to help the people that are hurting in the economy."

She said volunteering makes her feel good.

"I think the people of today need some good services," she said, "and everybody should look good for the holidays."

Demiri's hoping the event will be successful and already has plans to make the free haircuts an annual event.

"Maybe I'll do this once a year before the holidays from now on," she said.
