Flood relief on way for Fox Lake:

The Fox Waterway Agency has confirmed it will receive nearly $1.4 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to be used to repair heavy damage cause by the floods in 2007 and 2008. The first check of $490,000 will reimburse the agency for repair work already completed. Another check for $941,000 is on its way for work to be done in the next two years. "I find great pride in complimenting the FEMA staff for their helpfulness, flexibility and true professionalism in handling these claims," Fox Waterway Agency Director Ingid Danler said Monday in a written statement. Most of the damage happened to the 80 acres of bogs that ripped from the shorelines in the upper Chain O' Lakes area, Danler said. The repairs will reopen blocked channels, repair shorelines and remove debris.

Business lends a hand:

Molly Maid, a leading residential cleaning service franchise, recently announced the results of its 2008 Ms. Molly Foundation campaign, which raises money for domestic violence shelters and safe houses. Nationwide, the program raised a record $127,500, a 30 percent increase from 2007. Locally, the Molly Maid in Highland Park, which serves Southeast Lake County and Northeast Cook County, continued to be one of the program's most consistent contributors with its collection of more than $1,000 in donations. Since the program's inception in 1996, Robert Dillon, co-owner of the Southeast Lake County/Northeast Cook County Molly Maid, said they have raised more than $15,000. All of the money raised locally is donated to Lake County's a Safe Place domestic violence shelter. For more information, visit www.asafeplaceforhelp.org.
