Treat for sailors:
The Lake County Taverns Association will hold their third annual Christmas Dinner for sailors at Great Lakes Naval Station. Officials with the tavern association said 300 sailors from the naval base and 25 veterans from a VA hospital will be on hand at the Antioch VFW at 75 North Ave., Antioch. The cost of transportation, dinner and a gift bag for the sailors will be paid for by the tavern's association.
Gavin craft bazaar:
The Gavin School PTA will hold its fifth annual Holiday Craft Bazaar and pancake breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. The event, featuring more than 40 vendors, will take place at Gavin Central Elementary School, Route 59 and Wilson Road in Ingleside. Also available are concessions at "Children's Secret Gift Shoppe," where children can shop for parents secretly, and a scholastic book fair. For more information, visit gavinpta.org.
Make green gifts:
Kids can learn how to make environmentally friendly gifts through a program offered by the Lake County Forest Preserve District. The program is set to run 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Independence Grove Forest Preserve visitors center near Libertyville. It is open to kids ages 6 to 9. Adult supervision is required. Admission is $5 for Lake County residents or $7 for anyone else. Registration is required and can be done by calling (847) 968-3321 or by visiting lcfpd.org.
