Schaumburg residents warned about burglaries

Schaumburg police have issued a warning for residents of the west central area of the village following a pattern of home burglaries there.

Eleven burglaries to single-family homes have occurred in the past 10 days, Sgt. John Nebl said.

Eight of them have happened within a square-mile area roughly bounded by Weathersfield Way on the north, Walnut Lane on the west, Salem Drive on the east and the natural gas pipeline right-of-way approximately at the 800 block to the south.

Entry to the homes has been gained by the forcing of a rear door or service door of an attached garage.

The time of the crimes ranges from after 10 a.m. through just before 10:30 p.m.

The burglar or burglars in each case may have determined no one was home, either by observing the house or even ringing the doorbell, Nebl said.

Village residents are again reminded to call 911 immediately if they see suspicious people or vehicles in their neighborhoods, especially people entering or leaving backyards or carrying items down the street.

Nebl urges residents to best learn how to prevent residential burglaries by downloading a handbook from the National Neighborhood Watch Program at usaonwatch.org/pdfs/HomeSecurityBooklet.pdf.
