Mount Prospect man to lead USA Hockey

Mount Prospect resident Jim Smith has been named president of USA Hockey, the governing body for organized amateur ice hockey in the country.

Smith was elected by the group's board of directors during an annual conference in Colorado.

Smith succeeds Ron DeGregorio, who retired after 12 years in the position.

"I'm honored and humbled for the opportunity to serve as president of such a wonderful organization," Smith said in a news release.

Smith also will serve as president of the USA Hockey Foundation.

Smith has been part of USA Hockey's executive committee for 20 years.
