Island Lake man leads police on boat chase

Authorities say a man led police on a chase on Island Lake and was arrested after his boat collided with a police boat.

Police said Tuesday that 45-year-old Roland J. Petri was in a Lake County jail on $30,000 bond.

Authorities say Petri fled Monday when police arrived at his home after he allegedly hit his girlfriend and pushed her down the stairs.

Petri ran out the back of the home, which sits on a channel into Island Lake, and got into a boat.

One officer followed Petri in a squad car along the shore and another officer caught up with Petri in a police boat. Island Lake police say Petri then rammed his boat into the police boat, causing the officer to suffer a minor hand injury.

Petri was then arrested and charged.
