Larkin hosts girls gymnastics invitational today
Larkin High School will host its 25th annual girls gymnastics invitational today, beginning at 1 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
The event, which is run by longtime Larkin coach Bob Todd, features a unique format in which each school sends four gymnasts up on each event with all four scores counting toward the final team score. The team that hits the most routines without major mistakes stands the best chance for the championship.
The defending champion is the South Elgin/Bartlett co-op squad that scored 138.4 points to win the 2008 event. Second-place Batavia (138.375) also returns as does third place Wheaton North (137.875).
The remainder of the field includes 2007 champion Buffalo Grove, the Elgin/Larkin co-op, Elk Grove, Fenton, Geneseo, Lakes, Leyden, Mundelein, three-time champion Neuqua Valley, Riverside-Brookfield, Schaumburg and Wheaton Warrenville South. St. Edward will also compete in the event for the first time.
In addition to the gymnastics meet, the 13th annual lyp-sync contest will be held just prior to the awards ceremony.
Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students with IDS, $1 for all non-competing gymnasts and free to senior citizens.
